We have a good amount of work to accomplish this year. Here are the basic classroom rules to make sure we’re all on the same page.

·          All assignments are due at the beginning of the class period on their due date. If you’re doing the work while the rest of the class is otherwise engaged, you’re not paying attention and this establishes a pattern of falling behind and not taking work seriously.

o         If you don’t have the work when it’s due, it is automatically ½ credit.

o         You have until 4 PM that day to hand in the late work.

o         After that, it is a zero in the grade book.

o         Big assignments, such as research papers and essays will be graded late as follows:

§          Late the day due – 20% off

§          Late another class day – another 20% off

§          At 5 class days late, it becomes a zero

o         Incomplete grades will be granted in actual, verifiable emergencies

§          You have plenty of time in and outside of class to get assignments finished

·          When you AR test, you get your AR log signed and dated. Without it, you get a zero for that due date. It cannot be made up.

·          Classroom respect and appropriate behavior is expected. If you aren’t positive as to classroom expectations, consult your student handbook. The rule is simple: Don’t waste Mr. Janes’ time and he won’t waste yours.

·          Listening and working skills:

o         When doing group work, you may confer with your classmates.

o         When doing individual work, you need to work as an individual, by definition

§          Do not ask others for the answers

§          Do the individual work assigned as it was assigned for the purpose of mastery

§          Ask Mr. Janes if you have a question regarding the assignment

·          If caught asking others, you lose credit

·          The person assisting you (giving answer) in not doing your work loses credit

Network Expectations:

We save much of our work to our classroom folders on the network. You will be responsible for knowledge of file management such as:

1.       Computer/network/Internet ethics

2.       Correct location/folder

3.       Destination and retrieval of files

·          If you cannot access the network or Internet for any reason, you are still responsible for that work. If this is the case, you need to discuss your problem with Mr. Janes so he can assist with a solution. You will still be held responsible.

·          We use the laptops often for research, lesson support and assignments. See your handbook for Internet and computer rules. If you break a rule, you will be caught and lose your Internet privileges or worse. In this regrettable case, you will still be held responsible for getting your work handed in.

Privileges:

In order to assure classroom and academic excellence, in-class privileges can be revoked on an individual or class basis at any time.

·          No use of phone for any reason other than receiving incoming calls transferred from office

·          No leaving room for any reason other than restroom unless called from office, etc.

Plagiarism is copying/lifting/stealing/bootlegging the intellectual work of another and presenting it as your own. If you plagiarize, you will be caught and could flunk (If you’re not already aware, be cautioned that this has happened and will continue to happen to those students making such bad decisions.).

Any questions? See Mr. Janes for clarification.
