MLA

  • A title page is NOT needed as the MLA format takes care of that, so do not create one.
  • Indent new paragraphs.
  • Label the works cited page "Works Cited" (no longer "Bibliography") if you haven't already.
  • Understand the difference between parenthetical citations and full citations in your bibliography.
  • Parenthetical citations must be name and page in all citations: (Wordsworth 263).
  • Understand and block off long quotations, always keeping double spacing.
  • Use hanging indents on your works cited list for all entries.
  • Do not mix underlines and italics; choose one or the other and be consistent.
  • When using web sites and other Internet-based media as sources, no matter the actual type of source you have, be sure you cite it as we've discussed. For example, if you find a periodical in eText, it counts as a periodical source but must be cited as an electronic source. See your hand-outs and Basic Forms For Electronic Sources for reference.

As discussed in class, use the following sources* as references when writing your paper. Examples are provided, so please use them to your advantage. If you have any questions, please ask Mr. Janes. You might also consider consulting the MLA Style Manual; Mr. Janes has a copy for your reference. Finally, be sure to also check out Additional Resources, specifically those online.
