The Paper

If you choose to take the Research Paper option, you may write on a pre-approved topic of your choice or do a literary critique of the novel, A Separate Peace.

The basics:

  • Clearly defined and limited thesis (argument)
  • Research to find support for thesis
  • Evidence of development
  • Smooth transitions between major points
  • Four page (including introduction, body and conclusion) minimum for final draft
  • MLA Format
  • Works Cited page (no limitations as to type or amount of sources)
  • Other assignments include:
    • Outline
    • Note cards
    • Rough draft

ALERT! All completed research papers this year will be uploaded to TurnItIn.com to check for plagiarism. Anything copied will be caught. Any missing citations will be caught. Any plagiarism will result in a zero.

Here is how your paper, regardless of topic, will be graded:

Timeline for assignments:

  • 4/19 - Thesis due at beginning of class (handwritten OK)

  • 4/23 - Outline due (saved to your English 11 folder as outline) 3:30 p.m.

  • 4/27 - Annotated bibliography due (saved to your English 11 folder as works cited) 3:30 p.m.

  • 5/7 - Note-cards due

  • 5/11 - Rough draft due

  • 5/17 - Final draft due
