Adaptation Project
Now
that you have read the short story and seen the movie adaptation, you have a
solid understanding of how writing (or movies or other works of art) can take
something someone else created and ADAPT it. The spirit of the original story
should always exist, but many things can change.
Check out these other adaptations:
Now you have an opportunity to do the same - ADAPT. You and your group will
write and then act out an adaptation of The Devil and Daniel Webster.
Below are the documents you will need for reference.
We will ADAPT this project for our needs. Please take note of the
following criteria:
- Assignments
- The links lead to an adaptation project for William Shakespeare’s The
Tragedy of Julius Caesar. When you see Julius Caesar, think The
Devil and Daniel Webster.
- There will be three, random groups of five (5) students.
- One theme per group
- Discuss with your group to agree then select one from the three given
(no repeats)
- All three are viable options. If your group is not happy with the
options, propose another (must be approved)
- Sets, props, music/sound effects and costumes are not required but extra
credit will be granted if developed
- Each performance should last at least 10 minutes, but not longer
than 15 minutes
(Time your rehearsals. Are you under ten minutes? Rewrite.)
- As this is not a tragedy, ignore references to tragedy and tragic flaw
- Your group's typist will save your group's script to his/her English
folder as: script
- I do not care about the format of the script, but you better because if it
makes no sense to me, it will make no sense to your group when rehearsing or
performing
