Senior Projects

ALERT! All completed research papers this year will be uploaded to TurnItIn.com to check for plagiarism. Anything copied will be caught. Any missing citations will be caught. Any plagiarism will result in a zero.

Below are the units and deadlines. Each unit has its own deadline. Major assignments are noted in blue.

  • Phase I: Begin the Paper

    • Project topic (1/3)

    • Project/Paper Thesis Letter of Intent (Saved to your portfolio) (1/10)

      • Q: Where is my portfolio folder? A: Shared Drive:\students\MrJanes\12Comp-EngLit\(student name)

    • First Journal (Saved to your portfolio) (1/10)

      • Weekly journals - Due, saved to portfolio, each Monday by 3:30 p.m.

    • Outline (Saved to portfolio as "outline" - Due 1/17)

    • Reference/Evaluation of sources

    • Annotated bibliography (Saved to portfolio as "works cited" - Due 1/23)

    • Using Note-cards (Cards handed in to Mr. Janes and bibliography updated in your portfolio - Due 1/29)

    • Main research/field experience - Due 2/8

    • MLA format Due 2/16

  • Phase II: Begin the Portfolio

    • Resume Due 2/27 (Saved as resume to portfolio)

    • Introduction Due 3/9 (Saved as paper to portfolio)

  • Phase III: Begin the Presentation Preparation, continue with Paper

    • Body - Due 3/23 (Add this to your introduction, continuing to save as paper to your portfolio)

    • Conclusion/Rough draft - Due 3/30 (Add this to your body, continuing to save as paper to your portfolio)

      • In addition to what we discussed regarding your Conclusion:

        • Add the remainder of your notes to your body

        • Make sure the majority of what you write is YOUR voice, not a collection of quotes, summaries or paraphrases

        • Work on the transitions between paragraphs and sections of the paper

        • Respect all MLA and other guidelines as if this were your final draft

      • Visit with your advisor the week of April 2-6. He or she will review your rough draft and have comments to assist you by Friday, April 6.

    • Presentation Outlines - Due 3/30

      • Print out again if you lost the one you were given in class.

      • Complete and return to Mr. Janes by deadline.

  • Phase IV: Final Revisions for Paper, Portfolio and Presentation

    • Revision Due 4/6

      • Mr. Janes will make final revision comments. This will be your final chance to revise before the final draft is due.

    • Submit Research Paper Final Draft/Presentation Day (4/20)

      • Final drafts are due before your presentation. 

      • Presentations schedule TBA.

YOU DID IT!!! Congratulations to all the seniors who completed this difficult but rewarding project! Now all you have left to do is the portfolio. Mrs. Parker, Mrs. Kokes and I are EXTREMELY PROUD of you. We KNEW you could do it. 

Thank you letters are to be written, printed, sent and saved to your portfolio Tuesday, April 24.

  • Phase V: The Portfolio

    • We will link all documents, images, video and audio from your project, paper and presentation together as we create your web-based portfolio on CD-ROM.

    • Due May 4
