  • This essay will be persuasive. Develop a thesis (not a topic or subject - you must put forth an assertion then find evidence to support your opinion) that you will prove with supporting evidence only and directly from the our text. This essay is NOT to be solely your opinion. Substantiate your claim referring to the novel.
    • A Works Cited page is unnecessary. As you are using only one source, the text, I know your source already.
    • Do cite the page number when summarizing, paraphrasing or quoting the play.
      • Example: Holden was a phony. He often and passionately described films as inferior to literature but ironically he often went to cinemas to see movies (157).
    • You are free to draw on any elements of the novel and its relevance to today as basis for your thesis. You also may use the resources at the bottom of this page to assist finding a suitable thesis.
  • Respect all elements of the Five-Paragraph Essay format.
    • Your thesis statement must be present in your introduction. If not, and your stance is unclear, your grade will suffer.
    • Formal writing is expected. Review and adhere to Academic Prose.
  • I do not need your outline but developing one, as always, is highly recommended.
  • Save your final draft in MS Word to your English folder as: catcher essay
