Q: How do I begin writing a short story?

A: Just like with poetry, you need some inspiration.

Check this out:

The Story Starter

Does it look familiar? That's right! It's the same idea as the poetry starter we used recently. Mr. Janes will assign you your random starting point. Write it down and use it as inspiration to begin a short story.

The nitty gritty:

For now, I don't want you to worry about structure, what you're supposed to add to the story, length or anything remotely confining. I just want you to think about your Story Starter and what it suggests to you. What do you see? In which direction can your Starter take you?

Write!

Save your short story in MS Word as Story Starter in your folder.

Elements of Literature - Do you see evidence of any or all? Write it down, in addition to your general comments.
