Grammar Review
The Parts of Speech
-
The Parts of Speech - This is an excellent overview on the eight parts of
speech. First read the introduction page then spend time reading and reviewing
all the parts (links to left). Take the quiz on the parts of speech once you are
finished learning about them.
- Grammar Gorillas
- Now that you have reviewed another overview, have fun testing yourself. This
might be a cutesy game, but it does serve the purpose of practice. Choose
"Advanced" (at bottom) when you are ready to try all eight parts.
-
Interlink Language Center - Now take some advanced pop quizzes (to the
right, under "Review").
The Paragraph
-
The Paragraph Builder - The Topic Sentence is your note, whether
paraphrase, summary or quote. Some students wonder how 80% of their research
paper should be their words, not merely a collection of others' words.
Supporting Details are the sentences that YOU write, showing a logical
connection to your sub point, relationship to others, how it is a good example
or illustration of a point, etc. YOU discuss the why, what, how, when, where
and who of your point - flesh it out and explain why you picked it as support
in the first place.
- Paragraph Punch -
Interesting, interactive guide to writing paragraphs. It's not the most
intuitive method, but with a little practice, it will help if you are
completely lost.
