Reading Checks
Each reading assignment will be followed the next class with a small quiz,
the Reading Check, to assure students keep up with their reading. As Mr.
Janes has often and strongly suggested, it is a good idea to take notes during
discussion. If you rely on the text alone, you will miss nuances that will be
expected in your essay and project.
You will be assessed in the following order: Test, Essay, Project.

The Persuasive Essay - A Review
- You will use your text for evidence (illustrations, facts or
examples to back your opinion)
- Do not use any other source
- For this essay, you will not add parenthetical citations or
create a Works Cited page
- But if you quote, get it down word-for-word and use quotation marks
- Paraphrasing and summarizing, for this essay, may be written like any
other sentence

will be caught and receive a zero for the assignment as well as answer to

- Your final draft will be expected to be final, revised
(Use your time effectively as none extra will be

develop your outline, but the
final outline must be in MS Word and reflect your final draft and
vice versa
