English IV

Use the links at the left, top and bottom of this page to navigate to your current unit.

English IV traditionally is a mix of British Literature and advanced writing geared toward the Research Paper.

We will learn the Elements of Literature and use them to discuss and write about literature.

We will also explore creative writing: poetry, fiction and drama.

We will learn about and write in "chunks" a standard ten-page research paper. We will use the MLA (Modern Language Association) style, one of the most popular and useful to know whether you plan to go on to college or the workplace. The topic will be your choice, approved by Mr. Janes, and supported by a variety of research sources. Ample time will be given to the concepts of paraphrasing, quoting, summarizing, citing resources correctly and avoiding plagiarism; you will be held responsible for submitting only original work.

Your grade will be earned equally from your performance on classic assessments such as quizzes and tests as well as from  high-interest multimedia projects, homework and various papers.
