Course Title

Video Production

Planning Time

4th Period

Course Description: In this advanced level course, students will work under real life conditions, realizing timelines and meeting deadlines. Students will create video for different purposes, both individually and in groups. Students will learn all aspects of video production from planning through shooting, editing and mastering to multiple formats for varying purposes. Students will also participate in Film Studies, concentrating on techniques used in school-appropriate features to be shown and discussed in class with the intention of bettering the student's production knowledge.

All students will be expected to participate in producing a weekly Hay Springs High School news program, the HSTV News. Most content will be written in Mr. Janes’ Journalism I and II classes but Video Production students will rotate weekly through specific, assigned tasks. Each week each student will appear on camera as either a News Anchor, Sports Anchor or Interviewer as well as complete another task behind the camera such as Camera or Editing. Additional tasks can be assigned per the discretion of the instructor.

Format: Lecture/Discussion, Hands-on Projects
Grading Scale: Projects - 40%, Daily assignments and quizzes - 40%, Nine week assessment - 20%
Software: Windows Movie Maker, various other software programs and Web 2.0 applications as needed

Course Outline:

*       Video Production Basics

*       Film Studies (runs year-long)

*       HSTV News

*       Other

*   Elders' Wisdom Video

There are no extra credit assignments. Use your listening and note-taking skills in addition to the resources shared. Finish work on time; ample time will be given for each assignment. If you have questions, ask Mr. or Mrs. Janes and no one else if you want the correct answer.

Finish work by deadline; ample time will be given for each assignment. Because of the critical issues of deadline in the real world of video production, we too will not accept late work. Anything late will automatically be a zero as a missed deadline means a missed production. No excuses will be accepted.
