Creating your Resume

Click here for The Resume Rubric

These are your options:

  1. Use Word to first write your resume.
  2. Use Praux.com to write it.

Either way, you will be responsible to meet the expectations (see rubric and Mr. Janes' ePortfolio for an example) of the resume as it's your first assignment and will first be graded independently of the ePortfolio.

Praux.com option:

There are a lot of good tools out there for creating your resume. If you choose, you can use a great Web 2.0 application to create and manage yours.

  • Sign up at Praux.com (you will need an email address)
    • Click on the activation link in the email they send you
    • Confirm your password/account
  • Click on Create My Resume link (upper right)
    • Accept the domain they offer - you can always use this later if you want
    • Ignore the optional information screen (or fill it out if you plan to use this later)
  • Click: Create Resume

  • On the resume editing page, follow the easy instructions
    • Complete your:
      • Overview (Here you will briefly write about yourself. What do you want a prospective employer or college recruiter to know? It's your profile, not your life history.)
      • Objective (What is your intention? Are you looking for a specific job? A general job? Is it an ivy-league school to which you're making application? Is your intention just to get into a college, period? Only you can say what your objective is.)
      • Employment History (Dates, Places, Duties, Title, etc.)
      • Education (Here you will detail your academic career so far, including classes you want mentioned, GPA, clubs and organizations to which you belonged, athletics, honors and awards you've received, etc.)
    • On the right side of the page, under the Editing Resume heading:
      • "Click here to add a section"
        Then add:
      • Header: "Artifacts"
      • Format: Generic Section (with bullets)
      • Click: Create
    • Left click, then Drag and Drop the Artifacts section to appear under the Education Section but above your copyright information.

You can logout at any time and your work will be saved (it automatically saves as you're editing).

      To log back in:

    • Go to your resume's URL
    • At bottom, click: navigate (this resume)
    • Login (your email addy and password)
    • Skip the nag screen
    • Click on: Edit My Resume

Done? You need to export it so you can add it as text to your WordPress ePortfolio as text.
    • At upper right of the screen, click: Export
    • Click: Resume Default View As Plain Text
    • Copy/paste from the resulting text document to your WordPress ePortfolio

Remember, we're only using the Praux.com resume as a wizard to build your resume. You can always keep it and use it, but we're using WordPress as the ePortfolio because it's a company that is more likely going to be in existence over the years, in case you need it.
