The Photo Essay

For this activity, as the lesson indicates, you are to:

  • Choose a current issue or situation about which you feel strongly
    • Discuss and pre-approve your topic with Mr. Janes
  • Put together a series of original photographs, drawings or reproductions with or without words to express your views on the subject.
    • The idea is you will share a story or your opinion without having to say a single word
    • Your peers will be asked to comment on your presentation to see how effectively you visually communicated
      • Don't worry, if they don't "get it" that will not affect your grade. But if you did a good job, we all should be able to understand what you're trying to "say."
  • Use Photoshop, Publisher, Powerpoint or even MS Word to create a presentation of your images
    • When you present, you will only be able to introduce your work but not be able to explain anything other than what we might need to know first
  • You must use a minimum of fifteen images
    • Use public domain images (Wikipedia, etc.)
      • If you use any copyrighted images such as via Google Images, be sure to CITE that image
    • And/or use the digital camera
    • Create your own art
      • Photoshop it
      • Create on 8.5x11" paper and then scan
